Damerham Archaeology Project Open Day - August 1st 2009

Posted on 19th July 2009

Have you ever wondered how archaeologists know where to dig? Seen geophysics on Time Team and want to have a go? Try out the latest scientific equipment for yourself. You could be the first to discover buried archaeological remains. Have you found anything interesting or curious in your garden, or while out walking? Bring it along - Robert Webley, archaeological Finds Liaison Officer from Winchester City Council will be on hand to talk to you about what you have found. Fancy making a day of it? Don't forget to visit Rockbourne Roman Villa afterwards.

When?

Saturday 1st August: 10am to 5pm

Where?

The sites are located on private farmland to the west of Damerham itself. Please drive carefully through and around the villages, and once in the vicinity, please do not attempt to get to the sites other than by following the signposts. Please note that access to the site car parking area (which is on grass) is via farm tracks, which may not be suitable for some vehicles. Unfortunately, there is no alternative parking available within the area.

From Salisbury

Follow the A 354 until you reach the dual carriageway. Take the left turn to Martin (signposted 'Martin' - ignore the previous turn to East Martin) and follow the road all the way to Damerham. Once there, you will come to a T-junction. Turn right, and watch for the signs to DAP (Damerham Archaeology Project).

From Sixpenny Handley and points west

Head for the A 354, this time in the direction of Salisbury, and once on the dual carriageway look out for the right turn to Martin. From there, directions are as listed under 'From Salisbury'.

From Cranborne

Follow the road to Damerham and look for signposts to DAP (Damerham Archaeology Project). If you reach the village itself, you've gone too far.

From Fordingbridge

Head for Damerham via Sandleheath, drive through the village of Damerham, and again look out for signs to DAP (Damerham Archaeology Project).
